Carolina Digital Phone, a pioneering hosted telecommunications firm that serves businesses and educational organizations nationwide, has completed a successful implementation that involved restoring and improving telecommunication services for Middle River Regional Jail in Verona, Virginia. Middle River Regional Jail is a secure adult detention facility that operates under the Virginia Department of Corrections Minimum Standards for Jails and Lockups. Built in 2006 on a 28-acre site, the facility has a 902 bed capacity and is approximately 212,020 square feet. Staff at Middle River Regional Jail reached out to Carolina Digital Phone after an unexpected failure to one of its uninterrupted power supplies. This significantly diminished system capacity (note: no inmate-related services at any time were impacted or at risk), and increased the risk of a total failure.
Carolina Digital Phone’s Vice President of Sales Gary Tomlin received the urgent inquiry and immediately responded. Within minutes, Gary was working with Middle River Regional Jail’s Information Technology and Security Coordinator Wyatt Brown on executing an emergency restoration plan. The restoration plan, which was subsequently developed and augmented by several system enhancements and improvements in conjunction with Carolina Digital Phone’s engineering team, was reviewed and approved by Middle River Regional Jail’s IT department, and endorsed by leadership at Augusta County, which had awarded a bid to Carolina Digital Phone after a rigorous selection process. Per that initiative, Carolina Digital Phone deployed a feature-rich telecommunications system that met all of the county’s business objectives and budget goals.
